Joined Orchestra- 2011

At the age of eleven I asked to have clarinet lessons but the head of music at my school said he needed horn players for the school orchestra so I was persuaded to take up the horn instead. I played until I was 17 and then put it aside, not returning to playing again until some 28 years later. I found a teacher and practised hard and I've now been playing with the Southport Orchestra for five years.

Playing with a group of like minded musicians is very rewarding. We play for the love of the music and although we are amateur we challenge ourselves to play the music to a high standard and tackle some complex and demanding pieces.

When I'm not at work or playing my horn I enjoy family life, reading and listening to music. I enjoy a wide range of classical music and I also listen to other genres of music at times. I particularly like the music of Beethoven and Brahms, but I also enjoy Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Mahler. I'm also keen on Shostakovich, Poulenc and Rachmaninov. Then there's Mozart, Handel and Bach. In fact I love listening to and playing a wide variety of music.
